Top 6 Restaurants in Solomons Island

One of the best ways to experience a place fully is to sample the local flavor. Solomons Island, a picturesque little town at the southern tip of Calvert County, is one Southern-Maryland spot with a lot of flavor. This island town is popular for weekends away, with its romantic location nestled where the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay meet. Its food scene is best known for delicious seafood options, but it doesn’t end there. Here are a few spots to try in this quaint foodie paradise:

The Pier

If you want to dine with one of the most exquisite views in all of Solomons Island, this is your place. With panoramic views of the Patuxent River, it really can’t be beat. In addition to the great setting, they also cook up some delicious meals. For lunch and dinner, I’d recommend any of their seafood options. Their honey blackened salmon is a favorite choice. If you head over on a Sunday morning, you can also join them for a tasty brunch featuring a carving station, omelette station, and a waffle station. They open at 11am for lunch and 9am for Sunday brunch.

The Lighthouse Restaurant & Dock Bar

This is one of the top spots on Solomons Island to land a great seafood dinner, and their scenic bay location is a real bonus. Two brothers opened the business in its current location in 2014, and it’s since become a major landmark in the town. They’re accessible by land and by boat, and patrons can sit on their outdoor covered deck as they watch the sunset over the Back Creek. People rave about their crab dip appetizer as well as their crab cakes, and there is a wide variety of seafood and other dishes to try. Catch them seven days a week during their lunch and dinner hours from 11AM to 10PM.

Island Sushi

Island Sushi is a little mom-and-pop spot with a friendly atmosphere and good prices. They serve up fresh sushi and allow you to BYOB. The best part about this sushi spot is it’s as enjoyable in the colder months as it is in the summer. They have a wide array of sushi and gourmet Ramen options as well as a Hibachi grill. On a sweltering summer day, you can indulge in some refreshing sushi; and on a cool winter afternoon, you can warm up with a delicious bowl of Ramen soup.

Boomerangs Original Ribs

If you’re craving barbecue, you’ve got to check out this popular restaurant. Open since 1990, they’ve become famous for their ribs and other freshly prepared barbecue options. Everything is made to order or made from scratch, including their sides, soups, hand-breaded chicken, and seafood. They have 4 different barbecue sauces to choose from, including their South Carolina Tangy Gold sauce, made with apple cider vinegar, hickory smoke, and tangy mustard. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and they serve up featured specials Mondays through Thursdays. Stop in seven days a week from 11AM to 9PM.

Island Hideaway

Another famous spot is Island Hideaway, a charming family-owned and operated restaurant. As their name suggests, they’re tucked away from the road on Back Creek with beautiful water views. They have an upscale yet approachable feel, with high-quality fresh food like their homemade pasta dishes. This small spot makes their pasta daily, so you know you’re in for a fresh, tasty meal. If you’re in the mood for seafood, their crab bisque is a popular option. I recommend making reservations on busy nights, as this small space tends to fill up quickly.

CD Cafe

For the most creative dishes on Solomons Island, check out CD Cafe. Here you’ll find flavorful options like their unique Savory Cheesecake appetizer, a blend of herbed cream cheese and goat cheese on a walnut crust, with a honey-roasted pepper sauce and a side of French bread. They have an extensive menu of lunch options including burgers, wraps, and salads, and plenty of dinner dishes like pasta entrees, chicken, beef, and, of course, fresh seafood. Their homemade desserts rotate daily, so you can always expect something new. With innovative taste combinations, fresh food, and many options, it’s easy to see why it’s a favorite spot.

Whether you’re traveling through Southern Maryland, or you’re a long-time resident, there’s a lot to enjoy in Solomons Island. Especially if you like to eat, this little island village will satisfy your foodie needs and give you some unmatched bay views while you dine.
