Spring Cleaning Tips for Southern Maryland Homeowners
Can you tell we’re excited about the approaching change of seasons? Last week, we shared a few tips for items you might want to include on your spring maintenance checklist. This week, we want to help Southern Maryland homeowners get ready for some spring cleaning. After spending so much time inside this year, a refresh may be just the thing we all need right now – so, why not start with our homes? If you’re getting ready to undertake a spring cleaning mission, here are our top tips:
Make a Plan
Sure, cleaning is a basic task we do every day, but a major seasonal clean is different. It’s more thorough and it’s worth planning out a bit in advance. Carve out some time in your schedule, list the things you plan to accomplish, and map out a strategy for the next few weeks to get your home in tip-top shape. Another great way to plan is by giving yourself specific amounts of time to work on something, especially if it’s something you’re not looking forward to, like tackling a mess of boxes in the garage, for example. Though the task itself might seem daunting, if you commit to just an hour a day, it becomes much more manageable.
Get Every Nook and Cranny
When you start your spring cleaning, commit to being thorough. Like I said above, most of us are in the habit of regularly cleaning already, but how often do you move all the furniture or polish your floors? Now is the time to take on those more detailed chores that might not get accomplished on a weekly basis. To feel the maximum benefit of a squeaky-clean and fresh home, it’s important to go in your spring cleaning ready to leave no stone unturned.
Air Things Out
If you’ve worked up a bit of a sweat while cleaning, it’s the perfect time to open up your windows. Of course, you’ll want to pick a spring-like day for this, but really letting the air in your home circulate can make everything feel a bit cleaner. If you have any larger blankets or comforters you’re planning to wash, doing so on a nice day and hanging them out to dry is another great way to lock in that freshness.
Get the Family on Board
Sure, not everyone in the family is going to be thrilled about spring cleaning, but that doesn’t mean it needs to fall all to one or two people. Getting your kids on board makes the process go a lot more smoothly, and it will give them some personal satisfaction in taking charge of their space or completing a project through to the end.
Go Green with Cleaning Products
A final tip? Go green if you can. One of the best parts of spring cleaning is the fresh air. When you use cleaning products filled with chemicals and synthetic smells, they can quickly overpower your space. Opting for more natural products is not only better for the environment, but it can also contribute to the overall feeling of clean in your home.
Are you planning to take on some spring cleaning this year? What are the top tasks on your list? Any tips for first-time homeowners? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
