November 2018 Events in Southern Maryland
For many, November marks the beginning of the holiday season. Whether you want to relax and enjoy the autumn weather or get in the festive spirit, there are plenty of events in Southern Maryland to enjoy. Here are some of the best happenings in the region this month:
Beer, Blues & Burgers
Where: Marietta House Museum | 5626 Bell Station Rd., Glen Dale, MD
When: November 10, 2018 | 1:00 – 6:00PM
For an afternoon of live music, great food, and a variety of beers to enjoy, check out this event in Glen Dale. It takes place on the grounds of the Marietta House Museum, and they’ll be giving tours of the historic home during the event. Outside, you can listen to jazz musicians playing the Delta Blues and check out the food and craft vendors with delicious burgers and handmade artisan goods.
11th Annual College Park Blues Festival
Where: Ritchie Coliseum | College Park, MD
When: November 10, 2018 | 6:00 – 11:00PM
After enjoying your afternoon at the Beer, Blues & Burgers event, head over to this Blues festival in College Park. This free event includes live bands like The James Armstrong Band and Johnny and the Headhunters. They’ll also have a guitar raffle and plenty of vendors and craft beer to enjoy. The College Park Arts Exchange will host a button-making activity as well. Best of all, it’s a fundraising event to help send the DCBS Battle of the Bands and Solo/Duo winners to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
Veterans Day Parade – Leonardtown
Where: Leonardtown Square | 22735 Washington St., Leonardtown, MD
When: November 11, 2018 | 10:00AM – 1:00PM
Make sure to catch the Veterans Day Parade in Leonardtown this year and honor those who have served. The parade begins at 10AM from Ryken High School and proceeds along Fenwick Street to the Leonardtown Town Square. Expect floats of all kinds from bands, schools, and scout groups as well as vintage cars and marching horses. This event is one of the largest Veterans Day Parades in Maryland with a memorial wreath-laying ceremony following the parade.
Annual Fall Craft Show – Hollywood
Where: Hollywood Firehouse Social Hall | 24801 Three Notch Rd., Hollywood, MD
When: November 18, 2018 | 10:00AM – 3:00PM
If you’re interested in supporting local small businesses this holiday season, check out this fall craft fair in Hollywood. It’s sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department and held in the Hollywood Firehouse Social Hall. Admission and on-site parking are both free. They’ve filled up their vendor list, so you know there’ll be a great variety of unique goods to browse. They’ll also have refreshments for sale as well.
Christmas on the Square & Annual Christmas Tree Lighting – Leonardtown
Where: Leonardtown Square | 22735 Washington St., Leonardtown, MD
When: November 23, 2018 | 5:00 – 9:00PM
This month, historic downtown Leonardtown is hosting their annual Christmas on the Square event. They’ll have their traditional tree-lighting ceremony along with music, entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Mrs. Claus will be there to read stories, and Santa will also pay a visit. They’ll have fire truck rides, sleigh rides, and a petting zoo for kids to enjoy. It’s sure to be a festive event to ring in the holiday season, so mark your calendars.
Light Up the Town / Holiday Parade / Christmas on the Beach
Where: Bay Avenue | North Beach, MD
When: Light Up the Town: November 30, 2018 at 7:00PM
North Beach Christmas Market: December 1, 2018 | 10:00AM – 3:00PM
Holiday Parade / Santa & Christmas on the Beach: December 1, 2018 at 12:00PM
This two-day event in North Beach is one you won’t want to miss. On Friday, November 30th, they’ll host their Light up the Town event to kick off the season. Visitors can watch from the pavilion as they flip the switch and illuminate the town with holiday displays and their Christmas tree. The next day, on December 1st, they continue the festivities with their Holiday Parade and Christmas on the Beach celebration. There will also be a Christmas Market on 5th street to peruse. Santa & Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck with a special treat for children. There’s more fun to be had with refreshments and a campfire to warm up next to.
The many events going on in Southern Maryland this month make it easy to get out and enjoy the surrounding community. People travel from near and far to attend some of the more popular festivities on this list, so make sure to join them this November.
