March 2020 Events in Southern MD
March is just around the corner and with it comes the days of springtime! Say goodbye to the gloomy days of cold and grey and start planning your spring calendar with the March events in Southern Maryland. Here’s a few to get you started.
Artists in Action
When: March 2nd – April 26th
Where: Annmarie’s Sculpture Garden & Arts Center
If you’re a fan of art or an artist yourself, check out the Main Gallery at Annmarie’s Sculpture Garden and Arts Center during the months of March and April. The gallery will be transformed into studios for artists to work and interact with visitors, as well as display and sell their art. The event will highlight over twenty different artists specializing in a variety of mediums, allowing those featured to work together, learn from one another, and collaborate on ideas. Those touring the Artists in Action will be free to watch their artistic process, engage in conversation, pose questions, and even try their hand at some art themselves.
Calvert County Restaurant Week
When: March 5th – March 12th
Where: Calvert County
Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to embrace your inner foodie, so try something new or delight in your culinary go-to establishment with the bonus of special discounted prices. Calvert County has over 25 restaurants participating this year with menu items that will not disappoint. Choose from seafood, pasta, steaks, burgers, and much more during this week of specialized menus and unique and creative dishes. Most participating restaurants will be offering a prix-fixe lunch and dinner menu as well as their regular menus.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival
When: March 14th
Where: Ocean City
Come on out and celebrate the luck of the Irish at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival in Ocean City. The parade begins at noon with over one hundred entries from three states to entertain you. At the end of the parade route, you’ll find the judging stand and the Irish Festival, located in the 45th Street Shopping Center parking lot. The festival will include music, dancing, food and drinks for all to enjoy.
Taste of Solomons
When: March 21st
Where: Solomons Town Center
Taste of Solomons is an annual one-day food festival sponsored by the Solomons Business Association to promote all of the culinary favorites the beautiful waterfront community has to offer. Tickets are $5 and can be exchanged at the booths for a sample of their menu. Come on out and enjoy a lovely day on the water, sample some delicious offerings, and end the evening with a firework show.
Fly-In Farmers Market
When: March 21st
Where: St. Mary’s Regional Airport
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the St. Mary’s Regional Airport, the Historic Sotterley is happy to bring you the Fly-In Farmers Market situated at the airport inside of the Terminal Building. The market is on Saturday, March 21st from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features all kinds of fresh and local treats. Treat yourself to some locally farmed oysters, homemade breads and baked goods, local honey, fresh eggs and meats, plus so much more. In addition to all of the amazing food for purchase, the market will also have hard apple cider, bourbon, and whiskeys for sale.
Maryland Day at Historic St. Mary’s City
When: March 21st
Where: St. Mary’s City
The Historic St. Mary’s City will reopen at the beginning of March for the spring season. To commemorate Maryland Day and to celebrate Maryland’s 386th anniversary, they’re offering free admission. Explore the living history of Maryland during colonial times while touring the reconstructed town center, the Maryland Dove, and the Godiah Spray Tobacco Plantation. In addition to the exhibits, the anniversary will be celebrated with a ceremony, pageant, and speeches.
