Calvert County, bordered by the Chesapeake Bay on the east and the Patuxent River on the west, is one of my favorite areas in Southern Maryland. Whether you live in Southern Maryland or are just visiting, there are several great cafes to enjoy in Calvert County. If you’re looking for a caffeine fix or the perfect lunch-date spot, there are few spots that are definitely worth a visit:

The Lobby Coffee Bar & Cafe

Where: 6201 Solomons Island Rd., Huntingtown, MD

 

This place is a modern space to grab coffee and bite to eat. The coffee shop itself is a nice large space with big windows in the front making for a lot of light. The space is modern yet cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere. When you walk in, you’ll find couches, tables and chairs, and a fireplace, with plenty of spots to relax alone with a book or with a small group. It’s also a great place to get some work done out of the office. They have a large menu of coffee drinks, some traditional and some more experimental. They also offer plenty of non-coffee drinks, like a Lavender Lemonade Shaker or their Fruity Pebbles Crave blended drink. Their food menu is equally extensive, with a variety of mac n’ cheese specials, sandwiches, pizza, soups, and salads. Their pastry case is full of in-house baked treats that are quite popular as well. To top it off, this cafe also gives much of their profits to support End Hunger in Calvert County and Honduras Compassion Partners, so you can feel even better about your purchase.

Sweet Sue’s Bake Shop & Coffee Bar

Where: 9132 Bay Ave., North Beach, MD

 

This North Beach bakery and coffee shop is a great place to get your morning coffee fix. They have plenty of freshly-baked pastries to enjoy with your brew, as well as breakfast and lunch sandwiches and quiches. Their coffee is sourced from Baltimore Coffee Co., and they have plenty of coffee drinks with a local twist. In addition to delicious coffee, they also bake amazing cakes.

Dream Weaver Catering and Cafe

Where: 114 Solomons Island Rd. S, Prince Frederick, MD

 

This Prince Frederick spot offers catering services and a great cafe space to grab breakfast or lunch. The most notable aspect of Dream Weaver is their commitment to fresh, locally-sourced items and plenty of healthy options. For breakfast, they have a menu of freshly-made options like their hotcakes or breakfast quesadilla. Lunch options include a variety of wraps, grilled sandwiches, and salads. Some standout choices are their popular cream of crab soup or their crab cakes. The atmosphere is welcoming in their cozy dining area, and if you need an event space, they have banquet halls and catering services to streamline your event.

Lotus Kitchen (featuring Kim’s Key Lime Pies)

Where: 14618 Solomons Island Rd. S, Solomons, MD

 

If you’re in Solomons, this cafe is a must-visit. Lotus Kitchen has delicious coffee and espresso drinks and great blended smoothies. Their menu is full of breakfast and lunch options, with creative sandwiches like “The Good Karma” with egg, brie, bacon, and balsamic wilted spinach on a croissant. They have unique specials changing daily and lunch options like their Samosa Fritter Platter. They also serve beer, wine, and cocktails to accompany your meal, making this a perfect spot to relax and catch up with a friend. Make sure to save room for their famous key lime pie.
