Designing a Craft Space in Your Southern Maryland Home

Have you been thinking about creating a creative space where you can unwind after a long day? Or maybe it’s something that would be beneficial for the kids? Whatever the case, creating a craft space in your home can be a terrific option. The good news is that it doesn’t need to be elaborate to be a fun and useful space. Whether you find an unused corner or have an entire room you can dedicate, Southern Maryland homeowners can quickly set up a space to get creative. If you’re interested in creating your own craft area, here are some things to keep in mind:

Get Organized

Maybe you have room for a small standing drawer unit, or perhaps you have the space for tables, shelves, and a closet. Whatever the case, organization is your best friend when setting up this kind of area in your home. A craft space can quickly become cluttered, and having a system in place that’s easy to follow can make clean-up much easier. Labeling containers, for example, helps you or your kids locate what you need in a snap, and having space to display your creations in a neat way makes the area more fun. For a great way to display drawings and paintings, hang a string horizontally and use clothespins to hold the different pieces of art.

Lighting

You want your craft space to be functional no matter what time of day it is, so incorporating some good lighting options is key. Overhead lighting is a good start, and having a light on your workspace can also be helpful, especially for those more detailed projects. To make your space feel a bit cozier, adding some stands of lights can help make the area feel like it’s own creative nook.

Bursts of Color

A craft space should be fun and inviting. Especially if it’s for your kids, incorporating some bright colors can be a great way to keep the area feeling energized and creative. Whether it’s with the color of paint you choose for the walls, the artwork you hang up, or even your storage systems, making an area that feels bright and cheery can be the perfect place to destress for adults and kids alike.

Inspiration

Whether you consider yourself a natural creative or not, it’s always nice to have a bit of inspiration. Maybe you add a small bulletin board where you can pin magazine clippings or printed images. Incorporating some of your favorite artwork from other artists can also set the tone for inspiration. If that feels a bit old school, creating a Pinterest board you can easily view when you settle in to create can also provide the burst of inspiration you need to get crafting.

A designated craft area can be something that the entire family can benefit from. If you’d like to talk more about any of these ideas, or if there’s something else I can be of assistance with, please reach out to me. I’m always happy to help.
