How to Create a Next-Level Kid’s Room in Your Southern Maryland Home

If your kid’s room in your southern Maryland home could use some updates, the winter is often a great time for updates and redesigns. Creating a space where your child can feel relaxed, creative, and inspired is certainly a worthy investment. So, whether you’re considering an entire room makeover or some simple tweaks, here are a few ideas you may want to consider:

Chalk Paint

Chalk paint is a perfect way to allow your kids to get creative and change up their room whenever they feel inspired. Painting anything from an entire wall to a small rectangle can create a canvas that your child can update anytime. Drawing up a mural for their room or having a built-in chalkboard for playtime are fun ways for kids to utilize this blank slate.

Play Space

What are some other options for boosting the fun level in your child’s room? Kids need play and making plenty of room for this is important. It’s worth getting creative here. Depending on your child’s age, you might consider a big rug with easy-access toy bins where they can easily spread out, or perhaps even something as exciting as installing a swing.

Go Vertical

Especially if you’re operating in a smaller space, thinking vertically can really help maximize the area you have. Are you able to loft the bed? Even a half-lofted bed will leave you with a new space underneath to transform. This can be used for a desk set up, a little reading nook, or a place to store favorite toys and belongings.

Be Bold

Color is one of the best ways to bring kids’ rooms to life. But this doesn’t have to mean neon green walls. If you don’t mind painting, covering the walls in your child’s favorite shade is great – as long as you’re prepared to repaint down the line if they go for a bold color. If you’re not wanting to commit to bright walls, choosing colorful decor can achieve the same effect and is easier to update as your child grows. Think about texture and pattern here as well. When you combine these with color, you can really create a magical space.

Collaborate

Updating their room can be a fun process for your kids to help you with. Team up to brainstorm design ideas and get down to work together. It’s a great activity to enjoy as a family and it will give your child a sense of ownership in their room. This will help you wind up with a final result your child is eager to spend time in.
