How to Keep Your Southern Maryland Home Smelling Fresh
With so much time inside, many of us are feeling that our homes need a bit of a refresh. Though smell isn’t often the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about how to improve our homes, it can actually have a significant impact on how we feel in our space. So, if you’re looking to give your home a boost of freshness, here are a few quick and simple tips that can help:
Let in the Fresh Air
Even though we might not be ready to leave the windows open all day, letting in the fresh air and creating some movement in the air can instantly make your space feel cleaner. Open more than one window if possible so you can get a bit of a breeze going and help the air to circulate. A perfect time to do this is when you’re cleaning. Even if you only leave your windows open for twenty or thirty minutes, the influx of air can be rejuvenating.
Turn on a Fan
Whether you’re ready to let that outdoor air in yet or not, air-flow is still important. For those times when it’s too chilly to leave the windows open, grabbing a fan might be your next best bet. It can help to keep the air moving and help prevent rooms from feeling stagnant. If you’re really wanting to give the smell a boost, you might even attach a couple of dryer sheets to your fan to spread the pleasant odor throughout your home.
Add Some Essential Oils
Essential oil diffusers are everywhere these days, and it’s no surprise. They take up hardly any space, and they pack a real punch when it comes to providing your home with a great aroma. Citrus and herb scents make perfect choices for the kitchen while more calming scents may be perfect for the living room and bedrooms. Diffusers are a nice option too because it’s easy to switch up the scent anytime you need a change.
Refresh Your Textiles
To keep things smelling fresh, it’s also important to prevent any stale odors. One approach for this is to regularly wash all your textiles. Even throw blankets that rarely get used or small rugs can trap dust and odors, so putting these through the wash can help remove much of that dirt. If you have larger carpets, sprinkling just a bit of baking soda on them might help when it comes to preventing and destroying odor.
Deodorize
It’s also important to locate the source of any potentially unpleasant smells and work to prevent them before they begin. Common culprits include drains, garbage disposals, trash cans, and refrigerators. By regularly cleaning these things, you can stop odors from developing in the first place.
