Making Space to Get Creative at Home
Whether it’s for you or the kids, making space in your home for some art and creativity can be a wonderful way to maximize your space. Especially if you’ll be spending more time at home this year, finding new ways to utilize your space can be key to enjoying it fully. Maybe it’s an extra bedroom without a purpose, part of the basement, or a corner of the living room – wherever you find the space, designing a little craft area can give your home an added boost. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Declutter
It’s tough to be creative when there’s stuff everywhere. Especially for adults, if your creative space is full of reminders of things you need to do, it can be difficult to relax. To set you and your family up for optimal creativity and fun, strive to keep your art space as clutter free as possible. Designate the area as a place to do crafts and other creative projects, and don’t let it fill up with other household items.
Organize Supplies
Next, you’ll want to think about supplies and how you plan to organize them. Maybe you want a place to paint, sketch, or scrapbook. Think about the types of crafts you and your family enjoy and the supplies you already have. Gathering them together in one place can make it more appealing to settle into some creative time. Using some free-standing drawers, clear bins, and other organizing containers can help keep your materials tidy, making it easy for you to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Go Bright
When possible, your art area is a place to have fun when it comes to color and decor. Especially when you’re designing this space for your kids, incorporating some bright pops of color can add to the inspiring vibe. In addition to color, you’ll also want to think bright when it comes to lighting. Having ample light will make crafting much easier. Maybe you add a floor lamp or a smaller desk lamp to ensure you have enough light for your projects.
Get Comfortable
Your craft space is a place where you and your family can relax. The more comfortable you make it, the better. While you’ll likely want a few chairs and a table you can spread out at, it doesn’t need to feel like an office. Adding some extra cushions, cozy blankets, and pieces of artwork in the space can make it a more inviting and comfortable space for you and your family to enjoy.
Do you have space for an art area in your home? It doesn’t need to be big to give you a great creative outlet at home. While it might not seem much different than spreading out at the kitchen table, designating some specific space for arts & crafts can make it easier to dive into these hobbies. Is this something you have in your home? Something you’d like to add? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
