Southern Maryland’s Best Brunch Spots
Brunch might just be one of our nation’s favorite meals, and Southern Maryland delivers some delicious options to indulge in. Whether you’re looking for a weekday spot to enjoy on a day off or a Sunday brunch hub to meet up with friends, here are some of the best in the region:
Helen’s Cafe & Catering
Where: 29890 Three Notch Rd. Building A, Charlotte Hall, Maryland
This spot recently replaced the former Farmers Market Restaurant and Bar that was in this location last year. It’s a quaint spot run by Helen herself, so you know you’ll get the friendly experience you expect in southern Maryland. They’re open Tuesday through Friday from 6AM – 3PM and until 4PM on Saturdays. They’re known for their delicious oyster specials as well as tasty breakfast platters. A couple of standout choices to try: Cream of the Crop, their creamed chipped beef dish, or Helen’s Toast and Berries, a french toast dish served with fresh berries. They also have special events from time to time, so check out their website to catch one.
Bobby Rucci’s
Where: 10579 Theodore Green Blvd, White Plains, MD
Bobby Rucci’s is primarily a deli, but did you know they serve up breakfast every Sunday? This could be your new favorite brunch spot in White Plains. On Sundays, they offer a menu of breakfast favorites like Belgian waffles, sides of scrapple, and biscuits and sausage gravy. If you’re in the mood for a Reuben sandwich, they’ve certainly got you covered. A bonus — they offer Bloody Mary’s & Mimosas for just $5 all day on Sundays.
Hidden Harbour
Where: 14755 Dowell Rd., Dowell, MD
This restaurant is seasonal, so you can catch them in the warmer months. They just opened their doors last month for the season and are serving up weekend brunch again, starting at 8AM each day. This small Dowell spot is certainly a hidden gem, with gorgeous views from their deck and fun pirate seaside decor inside. Some popular dishes include their Creamed Chipped Beef, Chicken and Waffles, and their Hidden Harbour Eggs Benedict.
Marie’s Diner
Where: 6325 Crain Highway, La Plata, MD
I’ve spotlighted Marie’s Diner before, and it’s certainly a brunch staple in southern Maryland. The outside appearance is unassuming, but those who’ve been know that the food shines through. If you haven’t yet been in, you’re missing out on some of the best diner dishes in the area. This place is quite popular, especially on weekends, so you may want to arrive early to avoid a wait. They’re known for large serving sizes that make for easy sharing. Try their plate-size pancakes or a slice of their fresh pie or cake of the day.
I’se Da Bye Fully Stuffed Kitchen & Catering
Where: Exploration, Rt. 235, California, MD and The Brass Rail, Great Mills, MD
This is certainly the most unique brunch spot on the list. I’se Da Bye is a brunch food truck serving breakfast all day. They post up on weekdays at two different Southern Maryland locations. You’ll find them at Exploration on Monday and Tuesday mornings and at The Brass Rail Wednesday – Friday mornings, providing quality quick brunch dishes that locals love. Many people even travel a bit to get a taste of their scrumptious plates. They serve up unique options like their French Toast sandwich as well as other daily specials.
Whether you like brunch with a view, or you’re looking for a quick breakfast option you don’t have to cook yourself, Southern Maryland delivers on all fronts. Across the region, you can sample many diners and hidden gems for the best southern grits, scrapple, and other classics. Where do you go to satisfy your brunch cravings in the area?
