Visit the College Park Aviation Museum

Where: 1985 Corporal Frank Scott Drive, College Park, MD

 

This museum in College Park is a must-visit if you have any interest in aviation. The museum is a tribute to the Wright Brothers and their innovation in early aviation. This makes sense since these brothers once trained military officers to fly at the College Park Airport, which still operates today. As you walk through the museums, you’ll see old hanging planes, learn about the history behind them, and engage with interactive exhibits like flight simulators. They host regular events each month that cater to adults, families, and kids, so check their calendar to plan your visit accordingly.

 

Explore the Gateway Arts District

Where: Along Route 1 Baltimore/Rhode Island Avenue

 

The Gateway Arts District spans 2 miles along the Route 1 Corridor, beginning at Madison St. and Baltimore Ave. in Hyattsville and ending at Eastern Ave. and Rhode Island Ave. in Mount Rainier. It includes the four municipalities of Hyattsville, North Brentwood, Brentwood, and Mount Rainier along Route 1. There are over 500 artists living, working, and exhibiting in the district. But it’s not just art studios, the district is filled with all kinds of creative businesses that create this artist community, including art supply shops, local and regional theaters, galleries, designers, restaurants, and coffee shops. Stretch Your Legs at Watkins Regional Park

For a bit of hiking, this park has about 10 miles of beautiful trails through wooded forests, streams, and around the perimeter of Beaver Pond. For PG County residents and visitors, Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro delivers more than just hiking. This expansive park also includes sports fields and other kid-friendly attractions. There’s a seasonal mini golf course, a carousel, a Wizard of Oz-themed playground, and even an outdoor kiddie train ride. They also have a nature center and Old Maryland Farm where kids and adults can get up close and feed the various animals, including bunnies, turkeys, pigs, an alpaca, ponies, ducks, and peacocks. Families can also plan to camp at Watkins Regional Park for a summer getaway adventure.
